The latest figures for new tractor (>50hp) registrations in the UK have been released by the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA), and they don’t make good reading.
There were only 620 new tractors sold in August compared with 667 units in the same month last year, which equates to a 7% reduction. Overall registrations in 2020 for January to August inclusive total 6,683 units, whereas in the same period last year the total was 9,117 units – a drop of 26.5%.
It is perhaps prudent to give the figures some context. Although disappointing, the numbers should be viewed against the backdrop of extreme weather earlier this year and ongoing uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus outbreak and the continuing Brexit saga. The fact that a number of major agricultural machinery plants around Europe closed temporarily in March and April may also be a factor.
Not surprisingly in the current climate, there are some excellent finance deals around on new tractors. With the attractive terms available, it’s worth looking at optional extras that can further extend your tractor’s capabilities and enable you to get more done, more efficiently, around the farm. Buyers of New Holland, Case IH and SDF tractors, for example, have the option of having a Stoll front loader fitted ahead of delivery in the brand colours. In fact, a Stoll front loader can be colour matched to most tractor makes and models – be they new, old or anywhere in-between.
